From April 1975 through January 1979, Cambodia was controlled by a regime that murdered and starved to death its own people. The generation of survivors who were a part of those events has begun to pass away, and with them will go the many individual stories from which a grounded truth about that genocide can emerge. While the voices of powerful or privileged persons from that era have been heard through international legal proceedings and memoir literature in the West, the voices of “ordinary” survivors still living in Cambodia remain largely silent. To capture, record and publish these unheard stories from individual survivors, the Cambodian Survivors Video Archive partnership was formed by three organizations. Two of the partners, Digital Divide Data and the Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center, are long-standing organizations operating inside Cambodia. The third partner is the Archive Working Group, a field interview team led by genocide researcher Dr. Daniel Huck who conducted the first 100 interviews that make up the present Archive.

ចាប់ពីខែមេសា ឆ្នាំ១៩៧៥ ដល់ខែមករា ឆ្នាំ១៩៧៩ ប្រទេសកម្ពុជាត្រូវបានគ្រប់គ្រងដោយរបបដែល​កាប់សម្លាប់ និងបង្អត់អាហារប្រជាជនរហូតដល់ស្លាប់។ អ្នកនៅរស់ពីជំនាន់នោះ ដែលបានឆ្លងកាត់​ហេតុការណ៍​​​ទាំងនោះបានឈឺស្លាប់ជាបណ្តើរ។ សេចក្តីស្លាប់ក៏បានយកទៅផងដែរនូវរឿងរ៉ាវដែល​បង្កប់​នូវ​ការ​ពិតអំពីការកកើតឡើងនៃរបបប្រល័យពូជសាសន៍។ ក្នុងខណៈពេលដែលសម្លេងរបស់​បុគ្គល​ដែល​មាន​អំណាច និងអភ័យឯកសិទ្ធិត្រូវបានគេស្តាប់ឮតាមរយៈនីតិវិធីផ្លូវច្បាប់អន្តរជាតិ និងឯកសារប្រវត្តិសាស្ត្រ នៅប្រទេសលោកខាងលិច សម្លេងរបស់បុគ្គល «សាមញ្ញ» ដែលនៅរស់ពីរបប​នោះ ដែលកំពុងរស់​នៅ​ក្នុង​ប្រទេស​កម្ពុជា​ភាគច្រើនគឺមិនទាន់ត្រូវបានគេដឹងឮឡើយ។ ដើម្បីចាប់យក កត់​ត្រា និងបោះផ្សាយ​អំពី​រឿងរ៉ាវ​​របស់អ្នកនៅរស់ពីរបបប្រល័យពូជសាសន៍ដែលមិនទាន់ត្រូវបានគេឮ អង្គការ Cambodian Survivors Digital Archive ត្រូវបានបង្កើតឡើងដោយអង្គការចំនួនបី។ អង្គការចំនួន ពីរ គឺ អង្គការ Digital Divide Data និង អង្គការ Bophana Audiovisual Resource Center គឺជាអង្គការក្រៅ​រដ្ឋាភិបាល​ដែលមានវត្តមាននៅប្រទេសកម្ពុជាយ៉ាងយូរណាស់មកហើយ។ អង្គការដៃគូទីបី គឺ Archive Working Group ដែលជាក្រុមការងារចុះសម្ភាសន៍ផ្ទាល់ ដឹកនាំដោយ​អ្នកស្រាវជ្រាវពីរបប​ប្រល័យ​ពូជសាសន៍ លោកបណ្ឌិត Daniel Huck ។ ក្រុមការងារនេះបានធ្វើការសម្ភាសន៍មនុស្ស ១០០ នាក់ដំបូង ដែលវីឌីអូនៃការសម្ភាសន៍នោះត្រូវ​បានរក្សាទុកកជាឯកសារតម្កល់។
